As a Fossil Artist, great care is used in my work to highlight the unique qualities of each specimen.  All Fossils are collected responsibly, adhering to a strict code of ethics.

Once discovered the Fossils are carefully identified using the surrounding rock strata, any previously documented research of the area and the specific characteristics of the piece.  They are then cleaned and prepared for framing using a variety of tools ranging from rock hammers and chisels to paint brushes and dental picks.  Some of the more brittle or fragile rocks benefit from a sealer of a water based polyurethane.  Most of the pieces are left in their original rock matrix which lends to the natural beauty of the finished piece.  Once the preparation process is finished the fossils are mounted into personally handcrafted display cases.  They are anchored using hardware instead of glue as to not damage the piece.  The display cases vary as to fit the size and depth of the piece.  They are made from reclaimed wood and sometimes reclaimed glass.

Whether for education, a collection or just to appreciate seeing an object that had lived millions of years before our time, fossils are a part of our planets natural heritage and should be enjoyed by everyone.
